Re: Jane's Galactic Shipset (6th ed. 3225 pub.) OXP

I presume that the model_scale _factor reduces the size of the medical moray by 17%. But the vanilla game dimensions are 59m x 29m x 70m. The original Elite size was 60' x 25' x 65' - or in french metres, 18.29m x 8.84m x 19.8m A reduction in size of some 70%. Which does a much better job of explai...

Re: Dendrochronological "Wiggle Matching"

I think you're talking about two related but seperate things... not my field either but being an avid watcher of archaeological digs, reports etc from what i remember it can be quite accurate. Thank you... but... it's dendrochronology rather than the wiggle matching aspect of it... What do wiggle ma...

Re: More/ larger galaxies

Oh I know it can be changed as I've done it myself but I'm sure it will be fine to leave it alone. Its more the hyperlane the game draws I wanted to know if it changed based on how much fuel the ship could carry or whether it is still always drawn as being 7 light years. I see. From memory it was f...

Re: More/ larger galaxies

Bugging Redspear until he sees Red? Speak! ...of the Devil... Cim provided some of that framework and even made SOTL to show it could be done, but that fact that no one continued that work I took to mean people weren't interested. It was something I was very interested in but there was IIRC one rat...

Re: More/ larger galaxies

I can make a larger galaxy, that's not a problem. The problem is that it involves messing with the source code, so you'd have a separate version/binary to that of the main game. The issue there is that any new updates to Oolite would require you constantly having to mess with the source of your 'la...

Re: TL (Technology Level)

I thought that I'd been agreeing with you and bringing supplementary sources which also proved the point. Likely you were - as I said, I couldn't see your point clearly. So, what I'm up to is this. Two points. 1) come up with an analysis of TL which makes sense in the context of both the game code ...

Re: More/ larger galaxies

Actually this was just using a standard galaxy size I'm afraid! Not to worry, I might have a go myself at some point. Mainly, because it was just essentially adding more of the same into the game. Well that's the key issue of course. What is does add is a new theatre rather than a new play. S...

Re: TL (Technology Level)

What is an interceptor squadron One assumes you mean GalCop Viper Interceptors - usually to be found in squads of five. I know that's what I meant. Five military lasers pointed at you at any one time is not to be sniffed at... Ummmm... So in the The Space Traders Flight Training Manual (mostly by H...

Re: TL (Technology Level)

There is also the Vanilla game question of orbital stations in anarchies. If Galcop does not pay for them who does? Every world registered with the Galactic Co-operative has several Coriolis space stations in orbit at various altitudes I think GalCop does, at least in part. The understanding I've g...

Re: More/ larger galaxies

Before I had it so that you had 2 to 4 factions on a map, and they had a defined territory on the map (using the starlane recolor feature) and then the systems in between were uninhabited (except for pirates, other explorers and traders travelling from one factions territory to another). FWIW, I've...

Re: TL (Technology Level)

To what extent is "GalCop" an actual entity? Like the UN, it could be just the sum of its members - i.e. the 2,000-odd worlds across the Eight. Is "The Co-operative" anything more than a bunch of inter-system treaties, standards, and conventions covering interstellar trade, stap...

Re: TL (Technology Level)

Part of this comes down to our understanding of who is responsible for the orbiting Coriolis station That's true but we're not entirely in the dark on this issue. Oolite isn't strictly elite, I know, but it's not exactly foreign either... Coriolis stations were designed at the GASEC (Galactic Astro...

Pilots of the Ooniverse
That's not an easy one to attempt I think (I'd have dodged it if I could :P )
There's only a few lines that aren't up to the standard of the rest however... at least according to my questionable assessment.

Well done.

Re: TL (Technology Level)

The tech level of a system would depict how far advanced that civilization is compared to some scale. Of course... Must it? Do the specifications of my computer set up reflect my tech level or my income or both? What if I don't have a computer, or a phone? Or a car?... I'm only an individual, not t...

Re: TL (Technology Level)

By "the difference between planet and orbital" I purely meant the TL difference. Apologies! None needed. Sorry if I came across as corrective, I was just trying to be be specific: the word 'planet' is equally serviceable for me. But why should the station be limited in what equipment it c...
