Ah, Eric. Now I understand why you have to clear all pods on docking at any dockable entity. Thanks for the explanation. That also clears a few other misunderstandings I had.

Speaking for myself, I'm happy with the way things are right now. Yes, it would obviously be nice if scooped escape pods could somehow retain their identity during cargo bay cycling, but I don't regard it as essential to flying the Vortex and if it meant a lot of work I'd say leave it.

I do think the Vortex wiki page should make the situation clear to prospective pilots, however. Anyone screwing up a mission by cycling the bays (which could easily happen, if I'm understanding Eric's previous comments aright) would have a right to feel aggrieved, I think, if they hadn't been warned in advance.

It would be good if the 'heads-up' could be in the form of a handwavium explanation of why this is so. I've tried to think of one, but all I've come up with so far -- and it's pretty thin, I warn you now -- is that cycling a bay performs a mind wipe on any occupant, so the person/creature who got into the pod isn't the same individual who climbs out. Insurance companies refuse to pay up and GalCop can't prosecute, so it's the slave pens for them, poor souls. (I did warn you it was thin). :roll:

Hi -

Finally saved enough cash to buy one of these monsters. Sorry Smivs, the Boa Clipper has been a great ride, but I simply cannot resist!

I like the introduction screen when you first buy the ship. I did notice that the MAC has a small glitch: it reports the ship as having 6 energy banks, rather than 8.

My new Vortex had a name, but I have forgotten it. Is it on any of the in-game screens? I even had a look at my savegame file but it doesn't seem to be there.

Lastly, I am having trouble getting the turrets to fire. I have driven a Caduceus Omega, so am reasonably familiar with the requirements: having to have a target lock, the target being hostile (red), and the target has to be within range and in the turret's firing arc. But the turrents simply will not fire. In fact, I cannot even see them on the rear of the ship, from the external view. Have they been shot off? Have I somehow turned them off? I even went back and bought a brand new Vortex, took it straight out, and could not manage to get the turrets to engage a target. What am I missing?

Never mind the last bit, I found the Turret Switcher (Shift-N, n)

Oolite 1.76.1, Vortex OXP 1.25a, 2008 Unibody MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8.

If it's working properly, the ship name should be stored in your save-game under multiBay_storeShipName. That should be set the first time you save your game after purchasing the ship.

But that is a recent addition to the scripting (I think only in the last version or two), so if you've been running the OXP from an older version then it may not be there.

For the energy banks though, you are indeed correct. It's a typo that I'll correct on the next update.

Yes, it could be put on the manifest screen, although I was resisting doing so as it's somewhat superfluous data.

But as that screen from 1.77 will be page-able then I might add it in.

Hiya.
I was verrry happy when (at last) I came across a Maelstrom, and had the funds for it at the same time! :D
I had to bodge in some decent external views, of course, and slow down the controls a touch, as befits a 100tonner.
I was mildly dissapointed that it didn't have turrets like the Vortex, but still love it.

Just a little thing though, which might be an un-avoidable inter OXP glitch.....
When cloaked in a Maelstrom, and you 'fire' a pylon mounted fuel pod, the pod fires, but no 3.0au of fuel appears in the fuel tank.

Presumably this is part of some (very sensible) part of the code to stop people firing missiles from 'cloaked', but I thought I'd mention it.

The Maelstrom is a freighter rather than a fighter - hence the lack of turrets. In other words I had to balance it up a bit ;) Glad you liked it aside from that though.

For the fuel pods bit, was there any error in your latest.log? It sounds like perhaps a problem in the fuel pods OXP. Does it work OK with other ships?

There should be nothing in the script (at least from the ship OXP) for the Maelstrom which would affect it, at least to a first thought.

Hmm, you might have to remind me where to find the log, sorry.
I just re-created the situation, & it's still the same.
strangely (maybe) the 'mines' floated off into the distance. I don't remember that happening before. shouldn't they just vanish?
I followed them, & attempted scooping, to no avail.
as soon as I un-cloaked (automatically, by shooting the lazer) they all popped.

flying in the test universe - 1.77-5267
on a mac, if that matters.

It may also be due to your use of 1.77 trunk - the fuel pod OXP may be having problems. If you can copy/paste the log then we can have a better look (put it between [code][/code] tags if possible, as it makes it easier to read).

I'll also grab fuel tank OXP and test it under Windows trunk (presuming that's the OXP you mean).

Works fine for me under 1.76.1 and 1.77-5287 with Win7. Both with a Maelstrom and a Cobbie3.

If your logs don't show anything maybe try it using a different ship or failing that update your trunk install perhaps.

when I un-cloak, the fuel magically appears in the tank, so it is working, just not showing up on the dial until I un-cloak.

Ooops, forgot the cloak.

I confirm same effect under Win7 with both a maelstrom and a cobbie3.

So it's a trunk bug/feature - I think related to a change in the weapons safeties/activations or something. I recall reading something about that in the updates, although not specifics as I got them en-mass after my holiday.

Anyway it's nothing related to the Vortex/Maelstrom OXP. I've raised a new bug post here.
