Just had a little play - I'm sure the artists amongst you could do much better...

Very nice. 8)

It is a bit dark for my tastes though, couldn't you have picked some light coloured space to use? :wink:

Glad you like it, did look for some whitespace... If somebody has any nice nebula shots that would be good.

Spec for images are header: 3000x200, footer 3000x100, detail must be on the right as image is right justified by the persona and what you see of the image depends on how many 'lines' of detail you have on Firefox setup. (So the Viper fills the 200px high on the image but in my own Firefox I see it to just at the bottom of the nearmost engine)

Oh and the images can't be more than 300KB so too much detail might push you over this...

If you're looking for a more colourful background, you could always head over to Diso. Though I'm not sure which of my 4618 OXPs is responsible for the fireworks display. Probably one of the usual suspects.

Very little ‘whitespace’ in Oolite screenshots… most nebulae pics are dark and moody, as in my eclipse pic.

Can you make any use of that?

I'm not in the habit of trying to check my curiosity, so I did some testing.
The bright skies of Diso seem, as suspected, to be caused by a combination of OXPs.
Not surprisingly, Diso OXP is the main culprit. In addition, System Demux/Redux* appear to up the nebula effect as well.

*Can anyone explain to me why this

System Demux

and this

System Redux

won't give me something like this

Diso OXP

???

You can up the nebulae effect in ~\Oolite\oolite.app\Resources\Config\planetinfo.plist, which I suspect is what the Diso oxp does.

'Tis is the brackets in '(Oolite)' if you exchange them for the '%' codes you should get your hyperlinks back.

so in theory http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/System ... 8Oolite%29 should work...

EDIT: Which it does

Although I like colorful nebulae and pastel skies, I think Diso.oxp gets a bit overenthusiastic and goes over the top with the nebulae. I generally prefer to just up the star and nebula multiplier in planetinfo.plist. If you open the file, you will find inside the universal section:

Code: Select all

star_count_multiplier = 2;
nebula_count_multiplier = 1;
Change these two until it becomes pretty enough without sacrificing performance and you are set. You may need to experiment a bit for optimal values.

Hey, would you look at that!
%28 & %29. I guess that takes care of the "What did you learn today?" category. :D

Anyway, having Diso+Demux/Redux gives you a bright background in a very accessible location, and requires no fiddling/experimentation with any settings. (While tinkering can be fun, the lazy way gets the job done...)

To get briefly (no doubt) back on thread - will somebody use this persona (other than me) - to see if the number of active users goes up - I suspect as the Persona's creator I'm not counted as an active user!

Still says 0 active users - so I don't know what an active user is then!

Thanks for trying.

Perchance I need to restart FF for it to notice?
Or mayhap the numbers are not updated in real time?

Well, I'm using it and I don't show up as an active user - perhaps we have to be signed in on the Firefox site to count?
