New Mods.

New mods can also be downloaded from websites like Quakeintosh. They are typically in a compressed form like a zip or stuffit file.

Once decompressed they consist of a folder with sub-folders called "maps", "progs", "sound" or "gfx", and may also contain a "progs.dat" file.

Adding them to MacQFE is a simple drag-and-drop operation.

1. Drag the mod folder into the same folder as Quake. Keep this folder open on the desktop.

2. Double click MacQFE or one of its settings files to launch it.

3. Drag the mod folder to MacQFE's window. Its name should immediately appear in the list of settings.

4. Save the updated list.

Alternatively, having dragged the mod folder to the same Folder as Quake, and launched MacQFE.

3. Select the Scan for new mods option from the File menu.

4. Save the updated list.

New Maps.

New maps, (also called levels or .bsp files) for Quake can be downloaded from many websites. These files can either:

1. be placed in the "maps" folder inside the "id1" folder which is in the same folder as Quake, from where they will be available to ALL your settings, or

2. they can be placed in a "maps" folder within any other mod folder, or

3. you can make a new folder (for example called "Custom Maps") and store your levels in a sub-folder within it called "maps". This new folder should be dragged to MacQFE's window in the same way as a new mod folder.

Multiple Settings

You can duplicate a setting for a mod by cutting and pasting, or duplicating its name in MacQFE's window. The new setting appears at the end of the list, it can be edited normally to allow you to choose between multiple set-ups for the same mod.

Deleting Settings

You can delete a setting for a mod by selecting it in MacQFE's window and using the Clear option from the Edit menu.

Going back to unmodified Quake

You can use the Unadulterated Quake setting in MacQFE's window (which is not available to be edited) to reset Quake back to its unmodified form. You can also make new set-ups for basic Quake by clicking the Add Plain Quake Setting from the Edit menu, which will allow you to customise unmodified Quake to your liking.
